Estate Ariel
« on: 10 February 2010, 11:43:50 »

On the 3.0 Estate, the Ariel had been changed at some point in its life. The based looks GM but the actual Ariel was metal. Its been snapped off, leaving just the stump at the bottom.

On an old Carlton Estate we had many moons ago i remember that ariel screwed in, but this one could have been hacked about with. Time for a whole new unit?

I've got one of those - looks like the type that sticks up vertically to avoid the tailgate spoiler.  It unscrews between the ball and the lump attached to the roof.  (Then again, maybe its seized and the owner took it for a car wash... ;))

Yeah this one could be rotated in its ball, recall standard GM ones just screw in, but are flexible

My previous estate had no spoiler and the aerial was more swept back (and whippy as you say).

I don't think yours is non standard - just the type fitted to cars with the spoiler at the top of the tailgate.

That's interesting - I must have a different spoiler as anything swept back would foul on the spoiler when the tailgate is open (Mine is a 3.2 elite).

the ariel with the larger base you show in the photo is normally the radio/gps/phone. the whip which fits is a std gm beesting when a spoi;er is fitted they put a small spacer on the whip.

Prodrive sell an adaptor for the antenna to allow it to hinge when the tailgate spoiler hits it.

Have fitted a GPS/GSM/RF base from a different GM on my estate which stands the whip more upright.

Thats not quite right vxl. :-[ The prodrive part locates the mast so the tailgate spoiler does not come in to contact with the aerial at all and gives it a vertical plane, sorry just thought I'd clear that up haveing gone through the replacement routine :y
