Possible leaking condenser
« on: 13 February 2010, 17:16:14 »

Late last year, my a/c leaked (again). The dealer said that he couldn't find a leak, so both Tunnie and the dealer suggested it was probably the condenser.

So this time the gas lasted about 6 weeks or so, therefore is it worth just proceeding to having the condenser replaced or should I revert back to the dealer? They did put a tracer dye in the system so should they be able to find it?

needs diagnosing correctly, this seems to be the main problem with most ac issues, just topping up the gas is very poor practice, where did the gas go in the first place is what you want to know, yes it needs servicing but ime the omega gas lasts several years in a sealed system it doesnt just run out, or at least its far better to assume a leak rather than top up and hope, only for it to pack up in a couple if weeks, complete waste.

odds are its condenser but its most anniying to spend almost 150 in parts only to find its not at fault.

imo avoid the dealer like the plague and get an ac specialist on the case, id the leak and go from there.

Agreed, V6 condensers are much more protected from the elements than 4 pots thanks to dual fans.

Might be worth taking the fans off to inspect the condition of the condenser, mine was clearly at fault it was bright green with dye when it was removed.
