Light/sensor in rear view mirror - what is it?
« on: 15 February 2010, 16:50:36 »

I'm aware that the little blob on the mirror is the light sensor for auto-dimming, however I noticed the other day that there looks like a sensor/led-light type thing facing forwards on the front of the mirror. What is this? Anyone know?

It's the other part of the Auto Dip system... Detects when dark :y :y

and to prove what lazydocker says, just stick a bit of tape over it and watch the mirror dim. (obviously don't use clear sellotape   ;)  ;)  ;))

Right. So the one in front detects if dark and the one on the mirror detects light from behind.

Makes sense now, so it doesn't dim in daylight?

It actually detects if its sunny, sun = heat there fore it pumps out more cold air  :)

Does not dim in daylight no need, at night it goes that blueish/purple colour as the current is passed through it  :y

And if you always have the rear blind up, like me, the auto dip bit is virtually redundant. I've never really been that impressed with it anyway and at one time had it permanantly dark with use of a bit of black tape on the front sensor.

Don't tend to use the blind unless sunny from behind so the auto dim is great, pity the wing mirrors don't have it though. :D

I find the tint as green.

I find really handy at night, really cuts the glare down, but as Dracoro says, shame the wing mirrors don't have it. I find mine goes brown

I think you will find that the black bulb at the base of the windscreen is used by the CC to sense if the sun is out. I have a piece of paper stuck over mine because I got fed up with being blasted with cold air every time the sun came out >:(

Yes that was what i mean but you have explained it better  :y

I usually manually turn down fan speed in the summer, once its brought the temp down, to its lowest fan speed.

But he was asking about the sensor on the back (windscreen side) of the rear view mirror ::) ::)

No wonder I was confused ;D ;D ;D
