Codes advice please
« on: 12 March 2010, 14:49:43 »

Just had "pigtown" round to read his codes .. 2.2 engine ... as he has a few minor problems ...

First thing noticed . EML does not work !! Read the codes :

P0140 - O2 sensor No activity Bank 1 sensor 2
P0170 - Fuel trim Malfunction Bank 1

P0650 - MIL light control circuit malfunction

I'm guessing that P0650 might well be no bulb ???

The "live data" shows the fuel trim cycling constantly, I'm guessing that the lamba sensor may be disconnnected somehow after a previous problem with the exhaust ?? He mentioned a wiring problem.

It had an LPG conversion before he bought it ... its a mixer system and has these problems:

Will not turn to gas at idle - cuts out
If RPM increased and gas selected it will idle - just
If throttle opened slowly on gas - cuts out, (If throttle opened quickly its OK)

Vapouriser is nice and hot.

I've cleared the codes and they did not come back in 5 minutes idling, I've suggested he comes back in a week if he's not had a chance to fix the EML bulb .. just to see if they have come back.

Can't think of anything else to say ... any one any ideas .. :)

would think fixing the lambda issue would sort the fuel trim code as well, and lpg will be fuddled without it.

LPG is a mixer system ... so would it have a lambda input ???

B1S2 is post cat (well, post pre cat), so no system would tap into that...

Clearly the lpg is not setup correcly....and I suspect that is also driving the fuel trim fault code.

0140 sudgests a pre-cat fault

Thanks to Entwood for reading the codes for me.
The wiring problem he mentioned is that I changed the exhaust and the positioning must have been slightly wrong as a bolt on the floor pan was hitting the wiring on the o2 sensor and kept blowing the fuse. I changed the sensor and cut back the bolt to avoid the clash. It's been ok ever since - unless the sensor isn't working!  I wondered if the code was historical from when the sensor was broken - hence why Entwood suggested reading the codes again next week. I wouldn't want to go there this sunday - if you know where he lives you'd know why!!

This is my first LPG car and it was already fitted.
Entwood showed me his sequential system which seems to work much better than mine. I know what to look for next time! It probably needs setting up better so I'll have to check with an LPG installer - there is one in Swindon, does anyone know if there's one in Newbury (where I work)?

Thanks again for the help Entwood.
