« on: 21 March 2010, 19:50:34 »

Hello,

I need to replace the CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL on my Omega (Y26SE)

Could someone please point me in the direction of the HOW TO.

I have looked for hours but can't seem to find it.

Thank you.

There isn't a 'howto' for this yet as far as I can see  :(
Perhaps someone will be along shortly with some better help. When you find out how to do it you could post your own 'howto' in the Maintenance section? ;D ;)

Front or rear seal? Rear seal involves removal of the engine to get to it.
The  front crank shaft oil seal seals against the crank shaft pulley which needs to be completely removed to get at it. Once removed it's just a case of gently levering the old lip seal out with a flat blade screw driver. Pushing the new one in is 'just' the reversal of removal ::). Dont bend it though.  :y

I considered changing the front seal on my old V6 but didn't bother after discovering how tight it has to be done up. (250 ftlb IIRC).

Oil consumption / leakage improved dramtically after I cleaned the breathers and changed the camcover seals and I stopped worrying about it :y
