mines been off for the past 2.5years here in sunny spain and it runs cooler but it does allow a bit more noise!!! dont worry about it if its damaged beyond repair!!! i forgot to put mine back on after some engine work and completely forgot about it being behind the garage when we moved out here ;D

Nothing to worry about I reckon.

(I know of three tractors around these parts that have the undertray missing).
Keeping tight-lipped about the maintenance man's name, however!!!!).

The bottom engine covers actually helps to channel the air flow around your engine so helps to keep cool :y

I wouldn't worry about it. :y
I've removed and left off the splash guards on both my 2.5td's ('94 Elite auto and my curent '00 CD). No issues at all in the last 8 years.
Much less hassle when fettling from underneath and anything dropped from above is retreived from the floor rather than having to get the car raised to remove the splash guard in order to retreive the dropped tool etc. :y
