Leak noticed on the back of the engine heads....
« on: 15 March 2010, 10:11:45 »

.. had a little water leak now thats keeping the back of the heads damp and want to get round to fixing. I have no HBV so its not that but i am told that the actual coolant bridge that runs through the 'V' of the engine could be at fault and from the looks, sounds about right. What i dont want to do is strip it down for further looks without the right gaskets etc.... So if im going to be stripping the inlets right down to the bottom of the 'V' what gasket/gasket sets do i need before hand? Also has this work been covered by a guide in the how to's?

Generally the intake gaskets and "O" rings can be re-used if removed with care.

The coolant bridge has a set of dowty washers sealing it to the heads and the bolt heads. Could also be thermostat housing or oil filter cover plate or perhaps a hose connecting to the coolant bridge. Other possibility is the coolant transfer pipe that seals to the rear of the block with an O-ring - just above the bellhousing in the centre of the vee.

Best to pop the plenum, intake manifold and intake divider off for a look, IMHO.

.. just to say, the coolant bridge bolts are banjo bolts so it would be getting replacements before removing them in case they shear.

Thanks Kevin, if the gaskets are re-usable i'll take a closer look before i do anything drastic.
