Squealing brakes
« on: 29 March 2010, 09:17:39 »

My front drivers wheel squeals when braking. Is it right that just copper greasing the back of the pad will stop it?

It will help but, file a chamfer on the leading and trailing edge of the friction material is the ultimate solution.

what pads are they? and how old? did they squeel from new?

There have been some reports of heavily squeeling trade club pads, which are already very heavily chamford, if the pads are old the chamfer may have been worn off.

TC pads come with one shimed pad per pair in a set of 4. Might be worth fitting both the shimed pads on the squeeking side, or playing with combinations of.

Copper slip or copper grease on the back of  the pads will usually last a week or so if it works at all, then your back to square one.

May find a forign object stuck in there.

Could fit oe pads, much better performance than trade club pads, but they are £70 on trade club for a front axle set, which is steep.
