cam cover bolts
« on: 24 April 2010, 21:35:13 »

Anyone know if the cam cover bolts on a 2.2 facelift petrol are the same as other 1.8 & 2.0 litre vx ecotec engines? Reason for asking is a set of stainless ones on ebay for the above engines, but the guy selling them doesn't know if they are compatible with my car? Thanks for any help. Regards, Phil. :y

Careful with stainless nuts and bolts - they're crap!
They can "pick up" and shear very easily, leaving their thread behind ..........you need summat like 'Goop' on the threads.
Which is about £25 for a small toothpaste tube size.

Bit OTT, but it happens.

they change even on facelift, mine are male torx (2000 plate) dads on a 2001 is female torx, 2.0 ones are different too, but as far as i know its just head that is different, thread is the same.

Mine started to rust a bit, so put dab of silver hammerite on them couple of years ago, still look good  :)

Overtighten a mild steel bolt & you'll get the same result!  :y.
When I had my Sentor if I could replace it with stainless, I did. Capheads, hex head, Jubilees etc  :y  :y

I'll lend you my thread cert kit  :y  :y
