High pitched sound
« on: 24 April 2010, 16:16:07 »

Hi, I was out in the car today, still getting used to it but loving every minute! I was trying out the sport setting on the Auto box. When I gave the car some juice I can hear a high pitched whining sound, quite loud only at higher revs, I can also hear it, all be it to a lesser degree when cruising along. Should I be overly concerned? This is the first rear wheel drive and auto I have owned so not too sure about the noise. It's a 2003 2.6 Auto with 70,000 miles. Any help or advice appreciated.

MIGHT be the Multiram doing it's job.

Mine does it also but as you said, only at high speed/revs....kinda like a turbo noise.

Get it right and it sounds amazing.

Thanks duggs, I'm hoping it is that. The car is running great and with no obvious signs of a lack of power or anything amiss, fingers crossed. The steering is a little vague at times, don't know if it is the almost worn tyres or the steering idler?

Steering problem may well be the front wishbones need replacing.

Regarding the noise !  Start off in 2nd, I assume its an Auto, select the Sports button and gun it before selecting 3rd/drive. THAT'S when the high pitch noise should really kick in..am sure its the multi-ram shooting air through.
