I have a 2000 Omega 2.0 16v CDX Auto with 58k, New Cambelt and just serviced + 12 months MOT.
I have noticed that it is running very hot, on Motorways no problem and stays at mid range on the gauge, but in town it goes up to 100 degrees and sometimes over heading for the Red! I am not using any Water or Oil? starts every time and at the lower temps, in runs perfectly, but when hot the idle goes up and down between 1,000 and 1,500 rpm?

FAN not cutting in? What fuse or relay protects the fan?

ANY SUGGESTIONS GUYS AND GALS?

Fuse, relays, or most likely (if not the green fuses in relay box), fan switch faulty.

Same problem JUST sorted for my wife's car, in fairness a Vectra.

Twas the Radiator by the looks of things. Seemed to be working ok until she hit traffic or was driving around town then it would shoot up to 100 or more.

Once the rad was changed, problem went away, BUT this may have been down to several reasons "rad or water circulation" related.

Get the electric fan sorted first, it should kick in before it gets up to the 100 mark (97?) then the fan will take it down to just above the 90 mark...and so on

The water in the Expansion tank is rusty looking but smells of anti-freeze, so system probably needs a good flush out! and check fuses/relays for cooling fan and check fan switch!
Radiator looks brand new?

rusty coolant is a sure sign of poor servicing in its previous life

Can't say if RadWeld added, but could be possible?
Gonna get the cooling system flushed out and new coolant.
Cooling Fan not coming on at all, so sounds like the problem?
Maybe bunged up with crap???
Having a few electrical problems, battery failed so have fitted a heavy duty unit - much better!
Otherwise car goes brillaint!
