emission
« on: 30 April 2010, 15:16:13 »

Hi
MOT is due soon so I had a mate who owns a garage check out the omega (1997 V6 2.5 226K miles)
everything was ok but the emissions test
the hydrocarbons and the CO are measuring twice the MOT pass level.
He plugged in to the diaganostic port and looked at the lamda sensors they show that bank 2,4,6 has the
un-burn hydrocarbons.
He suggested that a cyclinder could have low comperssion or a plug is not firing every time.
I am going to do a compression test over the week end but are there any other suggestion of were to look.
Thanks

What were the short and long term trim levels for each bank?

Ok did the compression test all readings ok and within 10%.
Found that plug in number 6 was a real mess so fitted new plugs and clean all the breathers.
Wow it runs so much better now. :)
Had it rechecked and the hydrocarbons and now passing and the lamda readings are good and the same for both banks.
BUT
CO is still too high,
I am going to give one of the CAT cleaner products a go. I am told CataClean is the best at £18 a bottle
has anyone tried this?

If this does not work I assume it's new CAT time
Thanks for your help

if you have good lamda readings maybe take the car for a good hard run to clean the cat
