V6 oil filter canister
« on: 16 May 2010, 13:43:58 »

I've just had a battle removing the cap on my oil filter canister as it had been over-tightened.  I eventually found a wrench that held the body securely enough so I could put some real pressure on the cap, but during that process the body moved slightly.  It is still secure and can't be tightened any more so I suspect it just slid a bit on the seal.  As I don't have a spare seal and need to finish the oil change today I don't mind taking a chance on a slight oil leak if the seal has been damaged, but (paranoia getting the better of me) I just wanted to check whether the physical position of the canister body is important with regard to any oil holes?  I can't see any alignment marks on it so I'm hoping this fits in any position, but could someone confirm this for me for peace of mind?

Aslo, what is the small sensor? that sits beneath the filter canister?  This seems to be leaking - is there an O-ring seal inside?

Thanks for any replies.

It can go in any position. The sensor just below is the infamous crank sensor, should have a small rubber O ring on it.

Cheers - just what I wanted to hear. I'll finish the job now.
