coolant loss / hg replacement cost

after getting the timing belt change last week the garage said they would phone me with a price to do the hg
needless to say they did'nt
was in town yesterday and called in to garage to see if they had priced the job the guy recond he had but without refering to any paper work said it would be about £400.00 + vat  he's not going to use vx parts
from what ive read on here a diy job would be £150 ish but diy is outwith my capability i'm going to phone around other garages but does anyone have any idea what the going rate should be for a hg replacement

what did you think about the price quoted

be a bit more specific ie your town  ;)

can't really say, I do my own repairs & don't generally use garages  :-/
