Hello all!
I'm trying to sort through a few issues with my 'new' 1999'T' Mv6 auto.
The brakes are not the best I've experienced and it could do with new pads and discs all round, I'll also be flushing through the fluid. The thing is I've noticed that some stockists offer vented rear discs, my car doesn't have these, should it? Are the callipers wider for vented discs?
My car has seen some welding action around the rear quarter at some point in it's history and it also seems to sit rather high at the rear end, I'm thinking that the rear subframe and suspension could have been swapped for a non-Mv6 set-up maybe? Could just be the fact the fuel tank is empty? It is located right at the rear of the car.

Also the car will judder sometimes when I brake, it feels like 'warped' discs but it doesn't do it every time the brakes are used. I had to do one track rod end for the m.o.t. (I replaced both sides) and this improved the juddering. I noticed the wishbones look a little used so intend on replacing them soon. Is there any thing else I should be looking at replacing whilst I'm at it!?

Your car should have solid discs at the back, vented were fitted to the very last cars.

wobbly discs will wear the ends out quicker than normal.solid discs not that dear.

I would suggest the following......

replace all four discs with genuine ATE ones bought from Euro Car Parts, or failing that with genuine Vauxhall ones. As OE, these cars were fitted with ATE.

adjust the pedal using the clevis pin and brake lamp switch. The clevis pin that attaches to the top of the pedal is adjustable, and pretty much always needs to be moved to eliminate slop in the pedal. Bear in mind that the brake lamp switch controls the "off" position, so you can pretty much choose the brake pedal position at rest to suit yourself. Don't forget to tighten the locknut on completion.

you will be surprised how much difference to pedal feel this makes. Omega B has just about the worst pedal feel of any car I've driven, so any set-up improvement makes huge differences.

I would not recommend.....

going for "improved" cross-drilled or grooved discs, they're nothing more than a fashion statement.

fitting the vented rear set-up to your car. It's designed to work with a different master cylinder AND EBD (electronic brake distribution) The rear piston sizes are larger, too, so it'll make an already rear-biased brake set-up worse.

I managed to sell my Vectra yesterday (Saturday) so was able to go to my local car spares shop this morning and pick up a few new parts...

I would suggest the following......replace all four discs with genuine ATE ones...

Thanks for taking the time to respond, however the only disks I could get hold of at short notice are made by 'Comline' for the front and 'Imap' for the rear. They seem good quality and the chap at the spares shop assures me they will be fine, also they are warranted for 12 months. I'll let you know if they turn out to be any-good.

I spent £215 and came away with pads and discs all round, handbrake shoes, 2 new wishbones, 2 droplinks, 1 litre of 5.1 brake fluid and a can of brake cleaner. All parts were in stock apart from the rear pads which I collect at 10 in the morning.

I'm about to make a start on the front end, lets hope I've been supplied the correct parts...

Any-one wanna wish me luck!?

Not sure about the pre-facelift, but facelift MV6's have vented rear discs as standard, at least mine does.

You'll be changing your front discs and pads in a few thousand miles - pattern front discs no good on Omegas - advice as above buy genuine Vauxhall    (I and many others say this from experience!!)

Good quality pattern discs should be ok for rears though.
