Alarm goes off for no obvious reason
« on: 25 May 2010, 11:21:47 »

Folks,

The alarm on my Omega has started to go off for no apparent reason. Until now it's been fine for the year or so I have owned it. Are there any common reasons why it has started to misbehave? The car is a 99 auto elite 3.0 estate.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Either batteries failing in powersounder or bonnet switch. You can remove the powersounder http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220198611 to eliminate the siren altogether or bend up the bonnet switch bracket to determine if that`s where the problem lies. My guess would be powersounder

Had a similar issue and it turned out to be the bonnet switch triggering as the bonnet heated up and expanded in the hot sun. Where is your mig normally parked when it goes off and is it at certain times of day/night or totally random?

Thanks for these comments - I'll check out the suggestions. I must admit I thought it could be temperature related as it started with the recent very hot weather, but it went off again this morning and it was actually fairly cool.

Thanks again,

I have had exact same issue, was worse over winter, mine was not bonnet or power sounder but has stopped going off now my drivers door solenoid has stopped working!
I have been told that even the alarm system with the right test kit can be diagnosed  :-/, I'm waiting to have this done on mine might be worth asking around people in your area, better to get the right piece replaced, if your like me you will be reaching round to lock the car from the back seat to stop the alarm going off
Hope you sort it

You'd need to link up to a TechII to diagnose. Best way is process of elimination, disconnect one thing (eg powersounder, bonnet switch) and see if the problem goes away.
