Transmission Problem?

Just had my mechanic friend around to try and sort out the engine warning light coming on. He plugged in his Solus code finding machine and it came up with 1700 which according to my list is 'Service vehicle soon request from Transmission control module'. Does this mean service the gearbox? Anything else you could suggest?

think a tec2 will sort that out just needs to be rest or remove the code.
