ECU Removal issues! (Ex plod)
« on: 05 June 2010, 13:16:36 »

Talk about 'Don’t try and fix something that’s not broken'  >:( >:( >:(.

Decided to rip out the chip on the Ex Met Plod project (FL 3.0 2000w) and slap it into one of my other 3.0 FL MV6's for testing, only because the ex plod seems to go like a rocket to me, so was trying to work out if its the Police Chip, lower ratio diff or a mixture of both.

Anyway out comes the ECU, done this loads of times before be the way, the ECU ends up on the desk, next minute, phone calls and emails re work, cut a long story short, I gets side tracked with other things and the ECU ends up staying on the desk for a couple of days.

Plugged the ECU back where it belongs this morning (un touched), started the plod, fine, went for short spin, seemed a bit sluggish and starts stalling at tick over?, restart takes a couple of attempts and the revs at tick over are all over the place?.

I've re sited the ECU a couple of time since, and checked inside the black box for any disturbances, still the same on tick over, the Car was running sweet before I pulled the ECU.

I realise that the ECU will probably have to re learn, but this isn’t right!

Any thoughts please.

Chris.  :(

edit, Forgot to mention, No faults thrown on the Paperclip.

Misleading coincidence perhaps?

Either sticky ICV or EGR valve having a sulk after a weeks innaction?

Well just come back from a good blast arround, the random tick over is not as bad but still there.

Dont think its the ICV, to erratic, sounds more like the ECU is is trying to catch up with revs on tick over?.

Done loads of chip swap outs before, never had this before though.

Not sure yet, never got around to changing the chip, seem to remember the the plod doing about 2700rpm at 70 (auto), most of my other MV6's are estates so guessing slightly lower diff, but 2700 at 70 seems to be normal on the estate auto?, no idea what normal saloons do at 70 mph.

I had Y189 HKE which was a 3.2 auto from the DPG group. That had a LSD and the police sped diff. I would assume as yours was also from the DPG it'd also have the same spec diff. I've spoken to another owner who's got a an ext DPG Omega, and they'e got the diff aswell.
Have a look for the ident sticker on the diff itself, mine still had it on. If you find it, that'll tell you if it has an LSD...if it does then being ex DPG it will also have the police spec diff.

Yea its the Red DPG one, yes it has LSD, no idea what the ratio is though, does seem to pull well.

Was just curious how the eprom in it would compare to the two Superchip and Courtenay ones I have, will have to find that out on another rainy day.  :y
