Viewing an estate tomorrow
« on: 25 June 2010, 22:23:26 »

2.2 dti 2001 model. What's the view on the engine, is it better or otherwise than the 2.5td I owned years ago? Looks like a nice one and it's near me, just unsure whether fuel bills will be a little high..

even though its 300 cc down and 2 pots down on 2.5TD it still produces more torque. Its not as refined though, good for mega miles as long as its been maintained well  :y

That's ok, just sold a four pot VAG diesel (Fabia VRS) so used to rattly start ups..
Any ideas what these are fetching these days? Had a look in all the usual areas and there's a pretty wide set of prices so doesn't help much

What mileage?

Around £1.6K will get a decent example from around 2001 with average miles.

Prices seem to start at around £1K but mileages can be high (Autotrader has one over 250K and another over 380K listed), the vast majority are CD spec models but occasionally a CDX will pop up but don't hold your breath for an Elite!

Mileage is 155k, normally that would put me off but it has bills for an engine/clutch/gearbox replacement at 118k (main dealer supplied) - it's a CD

I would always pick a 2.5 over a 2.2 !

It does seem to have a very high milage, is it going very cheap?

Wouldn't worry too much about the mileage on these engines. It's the servicing that's more important.

As it's had a new engine / gearbox and clutch it sounds a good buy.

Personally I don't think it's a high mileage, especially when you see what sort of mileages they are capable of.

I know you are from the posh part of Brum mate, but 155000 sounds high milage to my ears?

It's up for £1800 but like I said there's little to compare against. 155,000 miles is a lot to me but the new drivetrain is only 37,000 miles old. Not sure..

LOL, Solihull has never been a part of Birmingham, besides, I think i'm on the border of Warwickshire really!  ;D Not that where I live has anything to do with the mileage on a car.

It averages out about 17K a year but I would reckon it's more likely to have done the bulk of it's mileage in the first three years. With a new engine / gearbox and clutch less than 40K ago I reckon it could be a good buy.

I guess ultimately the only way to tell is to go and look at it and drive it.

I'm almost crying! I would buy the car for £1800 if it was missing engine and drivetrain :o

I just checked a 2002 manual 2.2TD here that was instantly sold for £14k! This one had 112k miles on the clock and had low standard of equipment.. I'm puzzled about how those cars can be so cheap in the UK  :-/
