Crank Sensor..!!
« on: 01 July 2010, 11:10:15 »

After failing for afew weeks, my crank sensor has finally gone, my beloved MV6 won't start..  (though it does on a tow)...

My Omega is a 2000 (facelift) 3.0 V6 MV6

Afew questions...
does anyone know what plug i need, either oval or rectangle...?

Has anyone changed one of these themselves and could maybe provide a step by step..??

and finally

If theres anyone in the north lincs region that wants all the tea/coffee, biscuits  etc.. they can manage to change it for me...  lol

This guide will show you where it is:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1174321688

If you do not know how to remove the scuttle panel and wipers look at the HBV guide (maintenance section) which shows the twist clips under the windscreen rubber.
If you are unsure which connector to unplug at back of plenum, unplug the sensor from the engine block first (next to oil filter) and follow the cable up to back of engine. Unplug this lead and check connection type for ordering new part.
Easy enough job, just a bit fiddly leaning over engine, :y

I have changed mine recently, simple job, follow the maintenance guide on this forum.
Apparently there is a mistake on the dealers EPC which offers 2 types of sensor for the 3.0 V6.
Crankshaft Sensor  (90540743)
Oval plug three pins.
Hope this helps.

have been and bought a crank sensor, which was the oval one, but it was wrong, so had to take it back to get the rectangle one...  the only problem i've been having is lack of space (even with the skuttle panel off) and that i can't get 2 hands on the plud to split it...

How did u re-route the cable..  cos looking at mine i have less than a meter of cable on my new one...

As far away from any source of heat as you can get it.
dropping the cable through the brake pipes on the n/s inner wing usually suffices then cable tie to tidy up.

as u look at the engine bay..  feed down the left or right side of the engine...  bearing in mind the sensor i have comes with about 80cm of cable, doesn't look long enough to fit down the engine let alone feeding it round

Nearside/ passenger/right as you stand looking into the engine bay.
The plug behind the n/s head can be teased out to give a bit more play but the cable you have will be long enough.
Give me a minute and I'll get a pic of mine.

Plug pulled forward.

Cable tied to aircon pipe.

Passed dowh behind brake pipes.

Just make sure the cable is as far away from the hot downpipes as possible and you should be ok.

If you can't get at it you can either take off the scuttle or the plenum, either or both will give you more room.
Just depends how much you want to dismantle as opposed to struggle with the job.
