water leaking from front of engine
« on: 04 July 2010, 17:55:05 »

Hope somone can shed some light on this problem.
I can see water dripping from the cam shaft area on the front of the engine ( 2.0litre 16V 1998) model . But I cant actually see where its coming from, it seems to be dripping near the oil filter area , and running down onto the cam pulley. Are  there any water ways behind the plastic front housing behind the fan/cam belt?
Hoping its not the head gasket but I cant see much without removing the front plastic housing, anybody got any ideas? There are No leaks from anyhoses that I can see.

THanks Tunnie , I just been out to have a look again, seems like a difficult job and I aint a mechanic! So it seems a new cam belt and new pump , gonna be pricey!

Hi , to my respondants,Thanks for your input, Ive sorted the problem now, new water pump fitted, new cam/timing belt kit idlers, and new  tension thingamyjig, new auxilary drive belt also. First time for me on a project on this vehicle and Im pretty chufffed , got the timing spot on, and it runs sweet, ( fingers crossed) !!  What a difficult job though, had to buy Torx sockets and allen key sockets etc, as I didnt have those but all done,  I down loaded an Omega service manual ( I think from this site? )  and that helped a deal, , SOooo   next time I can do some servicing myself!  Have a good week guys, an ladies oif there are any. Gives you a real warm feeling when you manage to do what looks like a difficult job that will cost big bucks yourself, doesn't it?

Well done matey!!

Well Bert werent that difficult on retrospect, IF you have a manual, took me a few hours though, had to get the proper tools, cost of this = new pump, £30 inc, Timing kit, £49, Auxilary drive belt £18, set of Torx sockets £12, set of allen Key sockets,£5.99,  Total cost £115, and some skinned knuckles, Ps got the parts from Vauxcentre , they advertise on ebay, but they arent far from ( ten minutes so I saved on the postage as I collected, ) Looking in the manual I bet its a far more difficlt job on a V6 though !
