problem with key..
« on: 22 July 2010, 16:40:49 »

hi all,
i have a problem with the ignition key i have, its for a w-reg 2.5 and the buttons are knackered on it. the 1 to lock it has fallen apart and the other side to unlock barely works with the use of pressing something small and sharp onto the connector to open the doors.
does anyone know where i can get a new key and how 1 will set me back as its the only 1 i have. when i 1st got the car it i had to just use the key to lock and unlock but this kept causing probs with the alarm.
thanks very much

Buy a replacement empty fob off e-bay and just transfer your pcb into it. Assuming your micro switches are ok. As for the alarm,  press driver`s button from rear o/s door then close rear door. Car locked and alarm not set, make sure you`ve got the key in your hand before closing the door

Micro switches are on the printed circiut board (pcb) which is inside the fob. Separate the fob from the key blade and you can open it and see the pcb with the switches. The "little chip" inside the key blade is the transponder which talks to the immobiliser and enables you to start the engine.

In that case you need new microswitches. Have a search on here for a member called Martin Imber, he re-cons remotes at a very reasonable rate :y

It needs to go to Martin Imber then .. he will put new switches on for you .. the ones he's using now are better than original.... he does an EXCELLENT job. Turns them around in about 4 days.

Drop him a PM    :y :y :y

You can buy a new fob alone... just the buttons/electronics .,.. for around £30 from VX .. but it will need "tech2" treatment and your carpass in order to make it work .. and VX charge an arm and a leg to do that bit !!

Stick your location in your profile .. you might be near one of the forums tech2's .. darn sight cheaper than VX !!

I trhink you could keep the "horseshoe" and imobilisor chip and use the car with no remote whilst Martin fixes the electronics ... be risky though .. you could lose the "chip" very easily .. then you would be stuck .. :(

Carpass has the numbers needed for tech2 to work. You''ll have to pay VX for a new carpass at some time ... might as well do it sooner than later .. :(

Nearest OOF Tech2 to you is, I think, Nottingham
