Ok I`m going to try and get the car polished up , i`ve got hold of one of them hand buffing machines > Can anyone reccomend a good polish / compound to use the paint is very flat mainly were the police livery was stuck on i used just normal autoglym and elbow grease last year .

g3 compund best stuff there is all the trade use it but be very carefull plenty of water and keep your polisher moving at all times once you are done hot soapy wash get the mrs to do that as its a pain in the bum  dry her off the car i meen not the mrs then use a good wax and buff up by hand or use lambs wool on your polisher

Then G3 it on the mop, I dont use water I use a cheaper polish (e.g. Auto Glym super resin).

Then apply a few coats of a good protective wax e.g. Meguiars Next Gen (its a polymer wax and hence lasts much longer)

when using G3 apply an amount equal to the amount of toothpaste when you brush your mouth and keep the pad a bit wet-ish (not completely wet)..

and do this when the paint is completely cold, never under a direct sun light or in a windy day..

and covering the plastic parts with a paper tape makes the job easy so you wont try to clean them after..

One thing. Are you using a high speed rotary polisher or a dual action polisher. The former are pretty vicious beasties and best only in the hands of experts.

On the latter, you can buy various grades of polishing pads, best to start of with a soft one and work towards harder if that isn't enough. if the paint is just flat a soft one will probably work, if you are trying to remove heavier swirls then use a harder one.

G3 can be pretty vicious. ensure you use LOTS of water. Most of the paint correction brands have a set of less abrasive compounds that you might like to start with.

As others have said, good idea to clay bar it first. gets rid of all the surface grott

dont know the prices are ok but those are necessary material..

if your polisher is a variable speed type use the lowest at the beginning.. and if you use lots of water you need to wash whole garage after

as I said very tiny amount of G3 , apply directly on pad (not on the car) and use until it looses the effect..
