IDLE AND GEARBOX ISSUE

Hi To all i have a question to ask, is it possible to cure a idle problem due to the gearbox having filthy oil in, it,s just that i changed the gearbox oil, filter and gaskets today and it has cured the tick over problem or is it just luck. Any reasoning for this would be interesting.
