Has anyone successfully refurbished the metal surround to the glass sunroof panel, which I believe leaves the factory with oxidization as standard?

I've had one go at it, and only succeeded in scratching the glass! 

'Elite Pete@ is coming to my rescue with a replacement, but I know I'm gonna have the same problem with the new one!

Any hints and tips, or even a 'how to' would be great!

Yet another timely thread, but other than Marks guide on glass removal I can't help much.

But was hoping the surround would come off to prep and paint?   :-/

Been looking at mine for a few weeks now, trying to figure out what to do ...

Best I can think of is fine wet & dry to clean it all down, then something like Humbrol (modelling enamel) in  a satin finish ... haven't summoned up the courage to do it though

I decided to carry on and paint mine to see what the finish came up like, and it isn't too bad tbh.

You just have to be so careful not to scratch the glass when you're rubbing it down (like me!)  >:  And its nigh on impossible to mask up the foam bit around the outside, which means it gets caked in paint and I reco in the long term, it will lose it's sponginess!

I can't work out a way of striping it all down, looks like its all bonded together!  :-?

When I have a particularly difficult area to mask using tape, and masking tape doesn't stick very well to that type of rubber, I use a hot-melt glue-gun and run a bead of glue around.  It's easy to peel off after you have finished painting and doesn't do any damage.  If you get some on the piece you want to paint, you can easily use a scalpel to remove it.
