GM Catera Lights
« on: 29 July 2010, 15:56:40 »

Hi,

Has any1 ever fitted GM Catera rear lights (From the USA) to a vauxhall omega for the UK?
What problems may i face doing this?

The Catera lights look much better.
Does anyone know where I can get some rear lights that I can get for my Omega facelift saloon, that are not like the standard ones, e.g they have LEDs, or they are slightly smoked out etc.

you could only fit the body panel rear cluster as the boot ones don't have fog lights

I think I saw some photographs of this conversation before, but it involved importing a trunk (boot)lid from the US.

I have a root around to see if I can dig them up. :y

As tunnie says, there was some issue with the inner pair.

The catera lights look really good, but probably not worth the hassle then.

Are there any homegrown or EU mods i can take up instead?

Also, to make my V6 sound a bit 'beefier', people have been suggesting i put a few holes in the air filter box (on the wing side, right at the bottom of the box). Does this really work?

All sounds a bit "boy racer" to me, Raj.....

Better bet, go the proper induction kit route, or shorten the pipe in the bottom of the airbox right to the edge, and fit a good proprietry filter like pipercross or K+N, don't worry about the induction roar, it will only make people think you have "wallied up" your nice car, better to keep them guessing at your cars potential then make it sound fast and dissapoint??

as for Catera rear lights, you CAN fit them, but you will have to convert the bootlid set as there are no provisions for fogs. You CAN open them up with a Dremel or similar to accept a bulb holder though..........

LED's can be fitted too, if you are proficient with a soldering iron, I have converted a few Cavalier ones to leds, it takes a fair time, but looks good. You need 5mm 1 watt leds from Maplin's, and a couple of dozen will do for Brake lights, and about 24 half-watt ones for sidelights. Don't forget to seal them in with a good silicon tube of clear after testing them.

Turbomega didn't elaborate on how he did the job, and since he hasn't posted for a while you may have to contact CateraMV6 for precise details

Yep. It'll give you AT LEAST 20 extra BHP plus a shedload of torque. :y

NOT!!!!! ;D

It might sound 'better', but it will only succeed in drawing in hot air and dust - not good.
As siad, a proper induction kit with it's dedicated cold air feed is the best way to go, and you might get an extra couplea ponies (but don't hold yer breath, as it's the combination of lots of properly thought out mods that give better output.).

Using an oiled filter will result in oil contamination of the MAF.

AFAIK the K&N filters are oiled.

If you fit one I will be looking out for you posting a question about emissions light and rough running in 2 or 3 months time  :(

If the K&N filters are oiled, can't I just wash the filter (with petrol for example) and completely remove all the oil.
Then fit the filter?

Thanks to everyone for all the advice, I'll post some pictures of all the work I've done to the car once its nearing complete.

Thing is, the K&N's (standard replacement) work better if you don't oil them and just let them get full of crud - no, seriously! :y
