The oil filter on a diesel is really easy to do. Its on the passenger side of the engine and is really easy to do from the top

The parts for the chain,tensioner,guide replacement were £200 all in and that included the front cover gasket and crank shaft oil seal

Ok, I'll be giving it a go this weekend, the filter that is not the chain. I'll leave that till it becomes noisy.

Ok, I'll be giving it a go this weekend, the filter that is not the chain. I'll leave that till it becomes noisy.

none taken at all mate, just make sure you get the correct oil filter though there are two types one will fit both but dont filter the oil on the wrong one!!, if you look closely at the maze of pipes and wires you will see a couple of them can be unplugged to ease access to the filter remember to plug them back in when you have finished, also when you undo the filter you will hear oil running into the sump, so dont change the oil and refill before you change the filter!!! they must be done at the same time, i.e undo the filter while the oil is draining from the sump that way it all comes out!! and you will need six litres to fill it back up!!

This worries me..  So far I've bought two - one from Opie Oils and one from Halfrauds, and I'm sure they're both the wrong one for my car.. 

Not actually taken the filter can lid off to check, yet, but.. I suspect they're both for the later 'plastic lid' type (mine has the earlier/BMW metal lid - in fact I suspect it had a BMW engine dropped in at some point)..

Is there an idiot proof way of determining which is which without taking the old one out and sitting them side by side?

You could quite possibly get the engine number off the block and compare it with what the epc thinks it was when it left the factory to see if it's had an engine swap sometime in it's life.
God knows where it is on a tractor block though.

All Omega 2.5td's use the BMW straight six.

Edit:  or did you mean a BMW engine...as opposed to the Vauxhall 'BMW' engine ? (The difference being a re-chip to return it to the full BMW bhp).

I mean a replacement engine out of a BMW, as opposed to out of a Vauxhall .. I know it's generically the same engine, but - as someone pointed out to me - it's the U25TD in my car, but the engine cover (the plastic bit) had 'X25' in yellow pen marked on it when I bought the car..

And somehow I doubt that's a Vauxhall original marking   looks much more like what a scrapper uses to mark things up on the shelf..

(It'll still have the original Vx ECU though, so still 120-odd bhp as opposed to whatever the engine puts out in the BMW.. 150ish, wasn't it?)

As for fitting the chip, there's a 'How to' in the Maintainance section.

Straight forward re chip if it's a manual, but an AR35 box will be needed if it's an auto.

easiest way to tell the filters apart is, if you have a metal top cannister on the car then the ends of the fiter itself it has rubber/plastic/nylon small extensions , plastic top cannister has flat ends with no extensions,
MAN filter number from memory are
metal top cannister 938/1
plastic top cannister 848/1

It most certainly does! Thanks With that I can check the two filters I've got, and if they're the wrong ones... get the right one before I start the job (as opposed to half way through the job, like normal  )
