just went for a little drive, no TC/ABS light illuminated when ignition was on, and i tried a safe slam on of the brakes, it skidded... :'(

ouch, oh well looks like a few hours work and a refurb of the abs ecu is needed. :(

thanks for all your help in helping track down the exact problem

good luck with it, also, not in the guide, but from doing my abs ecu i would recommend using a screwdriver extension (flexible type) Imagine a spine that twists and bends. It will make the job so much easier as you can bend it the way you want. A couple of quid on ebay.

IIRC you'll need some torx bits aswell

thanks for that, i have a half decent(ish) toolbox, but will get myself one of the flexible extensions..

also am i reading correct that the car can be put back together and driven whilst the ecu is being redurbed?

Drivable yes but you won't have ABS, traction control, speed sensitive steering or speedometer.

A friend of mine got points on his license about 25 years ago after a police motorbike rider rode alongside him on the North Circular and saw that his speedo wasn't reading. Chance of getting caught must be pretty slim nowadays though...

the tc/abs lights do not come on at all..

as for the vec gsi, they came in both engine sizes, and only changed to the 2.6 at the same time the omega did.

but yes it is fwd, but from what ive gathered so far, it looks like a DIY removal, with a refurb of my unit. :(

i needed a car in a hurry after my vec was written off, with working 7 days a week, and bought this car off the bay from a trader....i know i shouldnt have got this in a rush , but my hands were tied,as i use the car to travel the 40 miles to work...

You may have some legal redress against the seller (this is a vital safety issue) Joshwyatt may be able to advise. :-/

Hi, just wondered if the reg no. is by any chance x996 dau? Gold elite estate with 99k and a nice new towbar?

If so you may have been had as this was sold 24th sept on ebay for £700 with faulty speedo, seemed a genuine seller. item number 290477357020.

However 2 days after the car was sold it was re listed by someone else asking £1250 on a buy it now and a classified add and there was no mention of a fault with the speedo I assumed they'd fixed it.

I hope this isn't your car, but if it is I hope I've helped you with some info, as you could contact the original seller and they'll give you the details of the fault when they had the car.

Dave.

the seller who was economical with the truth, hold him to account obviously, not the honest one. Typo
