Hello,
I wondering if you guys can help me out on a problem I have with my vauxhall omega 2.6 CDX Auto which has done 86000 miles. The problem I have with my car has a lumpy tickover and the emission light is on and some times when driving this emission light will set the engine management light on putting the car in limbo mode.
I have taken it to my local garage and they have put it on a diagnostic and have change the coil pack and spark plugs and reset it. They have check the lambda sensors and they say they are fine but the problem is still there and has not been cured. Now there have been no diagnostic codes stored so its trail and error. The garage has mention to me that they have done all the little checks and now they have mention about a full engine rebuild to cure the problem. That idea almost gave me a heart attack. Lots of threads on here point to the idle control valve but would'nt that show up on the diagnostic ? Any help and ideas will be greatly appreciated Dave.

If same people doing code reading are same as those advising engine rebuild then you need to post your location and get some independent code reading first.

Right! DO NOT go back to that garage, they are just after lightening your wallet!

Post your location, as already suggested, and someone local will surely offer or read the codes yourself using the pedal trick (use the link in my signature below). It won't be the IACV as yours is a 2.6 and doesn't have one

I am based in Brackley Northamptonshire , The garage is BVS Brackley but they have check the fault codes and change coil pack and plugs and have also check for air leaks and now advising a full engine rebuild.

Don't bother with them again, they don't know what they are talking about. You are very lucky living in Brackley as you are minutes from our mighty leader (TheBoy) who has a genuine Tech2 and is extremely knowledgable when it comes to Omega's. Drop him a PM
