if engine is ok and no misfire,
then there are a some places to check
* oil cooler area
* thermostate area
* water pump
* heater matrix (worst possible scenario) unless you cut the dash
* radiator
* coolant cap (it can leak slowlyso not your case imo)
* behind the engine where the coolant hose connects to the engine
taking plenum off and checking the oil cooler and thermostat area is easy..

there are coolant additive dyes that helps to find the problem..but also if you are not using pure water you can see some traces without them..

Check the coolant bottle for small, sometimes barely visible stress cracks around the fill neck  :y

BIG difference .. the system will not be pressurised so 2 things happen ... the water will "boil" at a lower temperature, and the evaporation rate will be high ... (steam from the crack probably) ... its a bit like boiling a kettle ... the water level steadily drops.

New header tank about £30 I think .. :)

Be careful. Swinging off the drain tap won't make it seal any better, it seals via the 'O' rings on the body of the tap.  :y
