Err?  :-/4 pot vs V6 ...... ?
V6 every time please  ;) ;) ;) ;) 4 pots aren't particulary economical compared with a V6 cos they work so hard.  :y :y

V6 DEFINITELY better!Just looks a bit scary under the hood compared to the 4 pot :y
Repair it-you would only regret it later when its gone.

but would I be happy driving it again after such major work??

I'll not take that personally ;) :P ;D ;D ;D

Just flip a coin Nick and no best of 3, 5 etc.  ;D

No offence Lee - it's not a doubt about your skills!!!

Anyway, if it was on my drive I'd probably c**k it up!!

I bought it as near as perfect as a car can be at 50K / 5 years - now I feel it needs a lot spending on it to bring it back to where it was then..

I really can't afford to do anything other than put old (heads) on now - and when I get money again I know I'll regret not having put new ones!!

I need someone to reassure me that everything will actually be OK..  :D ;D ;D ;D

The other problem -  as you all know - is that we become attached to the bottomless pockets that we need to keep our bl**dy cars running as we want them!!

So why do we??   :o  >:( ;D ;D ;D

Not sure about the economy - the figures I get are for the 2.5 auto
Urban=18.5
Extra Urban = 34
Combined = 25.9

For the 2.0 auto
Urban = 19
Extra urban = 35.3
Combined =26.9
Not a lot in it considering how much harder the 2litre has to work
Plus theres only 1 cylinder head to replace when the belt goes.............

Nick it was meant as a joke hence the wink and the sticking out of the tongue ;) :y

As for used heads Vs. new heads... new aren't worth the money. A pair of used heads off a 200k car will be fine for another 200k if the car is serviced regularly and properly. I may have a solution but I'm on my way out of the door so I'll speak to you tomorrow :y

as you say, there's not a  lot in it, so you might as well go for the V6. In all honesty I've never driven a 4 pot car, but the difference between a 2.5 & a 3.0 is very noticeable when you clog it.
So ..... big is best & bigger is better still  :y :y :y
