3.0 Ar35 into a 3.2
« on: 24 October 2010, 10:34:07 »

Any problems to expect from a 3.0 ar35 box replacing a 3.2 ar35 box ? Are they the same? There is a suggestion that there are some differences in the thread below....

Straight forward swap Chris, like for like ;)

I'll just add, I used the mini facelift torque convertor ;)

This Omega was one I did many years ago. It had a faulty box and the new box came from a mini facelift  ;)

yes they will work but ,  box from 3.2 got different flexplate like Entwood say,
and gearbox from 3.0 dont change gear so smooth
like one from 3.2

Not sure where the flex resides in the box, guessing bell housing? In which case I presume 3.2 item will fit on the 3.0 box? The 3.0 box has no bell housing or associated assembly, so we will need that part from 3.2 anyway?.... :-/

Flex plate takes the place of the flywheel in a manual car - so it goes crank->flex plate->torque convertor->input shaft (and yeah, all in the bell housing)

If the 3.0 box has no torque convertor, was it definitely removed properly? (i.e. box & tc off engine, tc off box in that order)

Yes, reuse your bell housing, flex plate and torqe convertor and fit the 3.0 box.

I should add, I would fit the modified thrust washer first (Sonax item)

Good point re washer, car is 03 3.2, did all cars have the same problem with the washer? Presume yes or you would have said....

....and the fault is box lost all forward drive after a stretch in limp mode, and has an atfl leak, level re filled and still no drive....history, rear crank seal replaced about 9months ago and box itself was overhauled by a private firm a couple of years before that for a hefty sum.

Just thought we should be belt and braces in case any other thoughts come up with anyone. Selector lights all work correctly...
