Why did my emissions light come on?
« on: 16 November 2010, 16:15:36 »

Hi all, can anyone tell me why the light may have come on and stayed on?

Done pedal trick and have codes 430 and 420.

Cheers in advance.
Dave.

Have you recently fueled up at a different petrol station than usual?

It is also possible for fuel quality to vary at the same petrol station - supermarket fuel stations are notorious for this.

When this happened on my car the advice on this forum was to fill up with decent fuel and/or fuel additive, then give it the old 'Italian tune up'!  ::), also to fill up with decent fuel every 3-4 tankfuls after that.

My EML light has been on a couple of times since, usually after filling up at Tesco, but it usually goes out after a while.

DJAC, I think you are on to something, a few weeks back my wife's meriva started running bloody awful and the emissions light came on and it had a misfire code. It was due a service anyway so I changed plugs. filters oil etc disconected battery to clear codes and it solved the problem.
When I was grilling her about whether she'd put diesel in it, she did say she'd filled up at safeway as tesco was busy, I thought nothing of this.....

On sunday I filled up at safeway as shell garage was busy  :-[
seems a bit of a coincidence and I wonder how many other drivers have had similar problems and spent a fortune getting their cars "fixed"
Will give it a tank full of shells finest tomorrow.

Just as a sidenote, disconnecting the battery does not clear fault codes.   ;)

I've not checked if codes are still there on the meriva, i disconected battery to get rid of the light.
