Drivers door
« on: 18 November 2010, 18:51:53 »

hello all
I have an Omega est 2.2DTI and the drivers door suddenly opens whilst on the move. I have investigated the state of door lock, catch and hinges(no undue wear?)could this be an electrical malfunction? If so what and where? has anyone else experienced this dangerous occurance.

Replies gratefully accepted. :-/

When stationary does the door open and close properly with the shut lines etc matching up correctly (is the door hung properly - has it been off for any work recently, or had a shunt?)

If it is not hanging right it means sometimes the lock doesn't catch then of course it can come open.

I would suggest taking the door card off and inspecting the rods.

PS

open the door and have a look at the latch in the door. use a screwdriver or similar to see if it moves and locks in position. IIRC it should click once, then once again.

PS welcome to the forum!

If it is the door not hanging right, there would be no signs of wear

Most likely a worn door catch. I have a replacement door latch here if you want to try it.

I'd replace the latch anyway, it's easy enough. Door card off, 3 Torx bolts on the end of the door releases the whole latch & locking motor inside the door, unplug & remove from the door. When refitting make sure you engage the vertical rod from the outer handle properly, it's easy to miss the hole ..... Oooer!  ::)
