Friend here at work just bought one, I tried to get him onto Omega's but he said they were too big.  :(

Is the 1.8 in the Veccy chain or belt? - Anything usual to look at? Apart from breathers ect?

Its fairly new one of the last old shape ones i think.

Can they be paper-clipped? Any easy upgrades like cruise? Is it drive-by-wire?

belt driven dohc.  diag socket under handbrake. not sure if paperclippable.  cam sensor seems to be as problematic as 2.0l

on a 1.8 its belt driven.

Oh and water pump is driven by timing belt so any failure of pump will mean the belt slips!

same as omega 4pot then.

Same thing tensioners ect? Will tell him to get documentation on that.

Assume its 40k / 4 year change?

Engine similarish to 2.0l Omega.

drive by wire, non paperclippable, cruise can be done with switch and brake/clutch switches and tech 2.

MAF seems to be a frequent issue with these, i had a zafira 1.8 with the same engine and got through 2 in 40,000 miles, dealers told me they were a common issue on all 1.8's

Pretty robust engine the 1.8's , well must be, if i can get one to goto 210k miles before a valve fell apart.
The only maintenence that my veecyB engine got, was oil/filter changes plus cambelt kit changes. I did change the waterpump at 160k miles but only coz i thought it was worth doing, it wasnt leaking or bearing going.
The only other thing that went on the engine was an aux bellt tensioner bearing.

Only real pain on them is changing the aux belt, you have to remove an engine mount to replace the aux belt.

Coil packs tend to last about 100k miles i found, but that was on the dual fuel version.
