Dead fuel pump
« on: 29 November 2010, 16:11:14 »

Afternoon,  i'm  currently  sitting  in  a  dead  car  lol. The  fuel  pump  has  been  playing  up  lately  and  now  i  think  its  finally  died. Amazing. Anyone  know  how  difficult  changing  the  pump  is? Is  there  top  access  into  the  top  of  the  tank?

I have a pump here if you need one. Access is below the boot carpet. You'll see a round metal plate with 4 screws, remove it and you will see the locking ring. Bit of wood and a mallet, knock it anti-clockwise to unscrew that and you're in. 3 tabs hold the pump in place and lift it out :y

Yeah it does seem to be a flow of pumps going down of late!  I started this thread while waiting for the RAC to arrive, i went straight from there to my nearest Halfords and used thr trade card to order a new Bosch pump.

Part no is: 0580314097 should anyone else have the same issues as me.

100%.

RAC confirmed it with some tests when he tried to start it... Engine wasn't getting any fuel.

I cranked the engine over and he tapped the top of the pump and it fired up. :)

I think I am right in saying that if the crank sensor is duff, then the fuel pump will not run, so a non-running pump does not necessarily mean a duff pump.

I broke down on the road and called out the RAC.  He said it was the pump and like an idiot I believed him and fitted a new one.  Got 100yds and it stopped again.  Did what I should have done in the first place and did a paper clip test - code 19 - failed crank sensor.  Changed that and its been fine since.  Did the RAC man do a diagnostic test for you, I'm guessing not.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

No paper clip test needed, as like i said it was the pump... changed the pump today and its sweet as a nut.

Old pump was FUBAR'd.
