Hello all forum members
After many months a passive viewer of this helpful and amusing  forum ,I have finally summoned up the effort to join in the hope that someones greater knowledge of the marque can assist.

I have a 97 elite 2.5 td estate auto with 90 K. A great car now with many electrical faults which I can live with, but  has now developed an unusual power loss problem. Whilst driving at relatively low speed say below 40 mph ,the engine power will suddenly decrease without warning and not rev beyond about 2000 rpm . The engine does not stall , misfire , and if left to tickover for a short time will resume normal service after a short period. This does not happen after a specific time of running and is unpredictable in frequency . 

After recently changing all glow plugs , fuel filter , oil filter , airfilter and cleaning injectors I`m happy with these elements but a bit concerned the car may go into permanent `limp` mode whilst out and about. I`m not keen for the family to be in this position if the wifey is driving .Can anyone give me some pointers on this ?

Also is it normal for the front tyres oute sdges to wear prematurely on this model? tracking and camber are fine . I`ve heard they eat fronts at an alarming rate - Michelins a bit pricy in that case !

Try the paper clip test to see if any codes are stored, see the link at the bottom of my reply.

Tyres - a thorough check of all suspension and steering joints is needed followed by any repairs needed and a decent 4 wheel alignment company such as Wheels in Motion to set everything back up correctly

Check the thin rubber tube going from the middle underneath of the inlet manifold to the inlet pressure sensor (its a 1" black cube) mounted on the passenger side of the engine compartment. This gets filled with oil and causes poor acceleration. Its a 5 minute job to unscrew the hose clips at both ends to check.

I found the odd characteristic of my poor acceleration was that that it could be temporalily fixed by dipping the clutch & allowing the revs to drop to idle before re-accelerating. Clearing the above tube solved it for me.
