They are Monroe self levellers, but they are connected to the suspension pump. They came with a kit where you can connect them to an airline, but they are definitely connected to the suspension pump.

If they weren't connected to the pump and the sensor was still activating the pump, surely it would just run and run forever, trying to lift the back end up with no effect?
Depends on the resulting ride hight and how close to stock the shocks sit at without air relevant to the cars load.

I guess check the air is still connected and see the guide in maintanance to check the self levelling is working correctly to start with.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll have a gander in the morning. I hope the shocks aren't u/s.

Also, does anyone think it'd be worthwhile changing the springs while I'm on, 10 years of being sat on by a lard a*se omega can't be good for them!

Thanks

I said in my original post i changed them, i wish it was them! Thanks

Just checked TC website, £350 for springs and dampers on rear. I might just bite the bullet and go for that, once i've checked in the morning. The elite must be one of the luckiest cars ever getting all this money spent on it, who said they were cheap to maintain?

If the shocks are faulty are they still under warranty?

Second thougts dont worry about that now, needs diagnosing first.  :)

I've been out and checked the shocks, they appear to be ok. They both rise when I take the sensor arm off, the car went really high, then when I put it back on I heard the air release and the car lowered back.

There is however a ring of rust around the off side shock (where the bottom thinner bit goes into the higher thicker bit - don't know what that bit is called!). This rust isn't present on the nearside. This was where my old shocks leaked.

I shouldve measured the height at full extension on each side to compare, I'll do that later as I also forgot to do more than just cursory glance at springs.

Does anyone know what if any are the best shocks and springs to fit to make it non self levelling? I hope they're cheaper aswell!

Thanks

350 sounds expensive just for the rears you could put bilstein b4's and a set of eibachs allround for about 50 quid more

personally i wouldnt replace them unless i actually found something wrong with them.

Check everything while your under there. Tie rods, drop links and bushes, dif bushes, trailing arm bushes, wheel barings, are the new donuts still seated fully home? although i'm sure that issue would be described differantly. Bounce the back of the car for damping etc etc.

I'd be annoyed having changed shocks and springs only for the fault to remain. Find the fault first imo.

I've had the back end in the air and had a look, and come to a satisfactory conclusion.

On the off side, the front inner most 15mm bolt on the plate that covers the donut bush was loose and rattling around. I think it had come loose as I put a smear of copper grease on when i changed the donut bushes (in hindsight I don't know why, they shouldn't be coming off again).

There isn't a torque value for this anywhere, so when I did the job, torqued it to 65nm, the same as the centre 18mm bolt.

I retorqued all bolts on both sides, and the top mounts of rear shock absorbers.

Then I went for a spin and it seems much much better. Although not as comfortable as i would like, but I think the state of our roads is something we are all going to have to live with and get used to unfortunately.

Saying that though, if the centre bolt (18mm) through the donut bush, and the other two 15 mm bolts were torqued up nicely, I can't see how this would make that much of a difference.

Thanks everyone though for your help and suggestions ;)
