3.8 Bar Fuel Regulator

Hi All,

How easy is it to change the 3.0 Bar Fuel Regulator on my 3.0 v6 for a 3.8?
I have tried to search for a How To, however I have failed.
Does anyone have some instructions?

Why? The ECU will just compensate and reduce the injection times ;) ;)

But I'm a little confused... Your last post implied that you wanted to save fuel, then you ask about a "performance upgrade" :-/ :-/

might be of benefit if your playing with regal cams / ecu chip / gas flowing / porting  ect
if not, my advice is save your money and spend it on giving the engine a bloody good service  :y

And the answer is that its pretty easy as the regulator is located on the fuel rail at the rear of the injector inlet assembly.

The 3.8 Bar reg was used on the 2.6 and 3.2 as standard so are easy enough to get.

The 3.8 BFR is for an Omega Auto (not mine) as its hitting a flat spot when accelerating.
I have been told that replacing the older 3.0 BFR with the 3.8 version may help to resolve this (along with a service which was carried out last week).

I suspect its bit of bad advice TBH.

On the C25 in the Calibra/Cav there was a bit of a flat spot, this could be helped (but by no means cured) by upping the fuel pressure.

The X25 and X30 engines use a multiram setup to solve this little issue and hence if you have flat spots it is most likely to be:

1) Multirams not functioning correctly (normaly as a result of the last person to work in that area!)

2) Cam timing not correct, to many garages are convinced (incorrectly) that the correct cam belt fitting kit is not required.

Right, its an easy change as I've done mine.  Bit of a bugger as its quite near the bulk head so you have to almost lay across the engine, but its a 15-20min job.

But we're actually trying to solve the problem for him without spending unnecessary money ;) I suspected from the outset that the reason behind it was some sort of lag/hesitation and changing the FPR will do bu66er all on the X series engine because the ECU will just adjust the injection times to compensate ;) ;)

Some interesting views.
Some say to change it as the 3.2 had it (I guess the 3.2 had it for the extra 0.2 ltr?)

It may be that the 3.0 BFR is faulty (don't know if this could ever happen) which would require me to change it anyway.

I will check the mulirams before I decide to change it.

As we've said, check multirams and the timing... My cam timing on the 3/4 bank was out by less than half a tooth and I had a flat spot at about 3100 RPM ;)
