Not a silly question.  ;)
I assume you have 3 like me  :-/ The two infront of the rad should come on slow at a lower engine temp and if the temp continues to rise should then run at full speed. I've never had to play with this set up but assume that there is a low speed relay & a high speed relay, so either you have a faulty low speed relay or it's not being told to switch by the temp switch on the radiator (towards the top, passenger side)

I've just seen the other overheating thread ...... I didn't know there was a guide on the rad fan switch http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225543651  :y

Thanks Andy, i will replace the switch to see, and yes i have the 3 fans....they do seem to be running at full speed, so i must assume they are not cutting in early enough?....you def dont think its the stat then? :)

sorry my thinking not to clear either, if the fans are running at full speed (which they are) then am i to asume its not the switch but the relay that needs replacing????...if so, does anyone know where that is located, or are they all part of the switch you have mentioned???? i dont want to replace something if its working fine. :-/

Your engine temp is falling when your fans run at full chat, but they're supposed to both run at half speed first. IIRC the relays live in the fuse/relay box under the bonnet.

Andy thanks for the link and clarification, it is much appreciated..i will replace the relay/s first as the fan switch is clearly not the cause.....all 3 running at full speed.... :)

I had the same problem, turned out one of the fuses under the bonnet had blown so the low speed wasnt working. Check the big box next to the battery that has all the relays in. There are only a few fuses in there. Cant recall which one controls low speed but as there are only a few just pull and check them all.

checked fuses all o.k and there are 4 cooling fan relays under there...i spoke to the stealers who were no real help with this, :o so i am going to change the rad switch first to see if that cures the problem as i assume this must be temp controlled. :-/
