My new Elite Project - Plan and Pics
« on: 25 January 2008, 20:20:23 »

Well I guess it's no secret anymore, so here's a bit more info.

First of all, the car.

Vauxhall Omega (obviously)
1999 S reg Minifacelift 3.0 Litre Auto
Elite Spec, so all toys, black leather, BOSE, SAT Nav etc...
Loads of recent work, incl brakes done by Laidback66, tyres etc.
Almost mint condition (I know the car).
Cambelt + tensioners done less than 8k.

Many of you will remember MaxV6's Elite Estate. The one with the pesky coolant problem. Well - this is the car. I'm buying it from Max, as a non runner. (Cheers Max :y )

Basically, despite MarkDTM re-seating the oil cooler, and me reseating the stat and transfer pipe, it's still leaking down the back.

Max's local garage have stripped it right down, and diagnosed Head Gasket Failure on the passenger bank, and a potentially damaged head.

SO... it's in need of a full top end rebuild. And because it's stripped anyway, it would be rude not to...

The car is here:

And here is the plan.

As it's been stripped down so much anyway - I'm doing a complete top end rebuild, with a new set of heads.

I have already sourced (removed) some good 3.0 heads, and I will rebuild them this weekend, lapping in all the valves, and fitting new valve stem seals. (May actually start tonight, at work)  ::)

And then on Monday / Tuesday, I'm going to put it back together. EVERY seal, gasket etc will be changed, along with plugs, etc. GENUINE manifold gaskets, camcover gaskets, and Camshaft seals will be used, with replacement of all belts, blah...

It will basically be a completely overhauled engine when I'm done, and I'm aiming to get it done by the end of Tues.

Just hoping the manifold studs don't break, but I have re-threading and drilling kit at the ready if they do!

Anyhow, best dig out the valve spring compressor and get cracking with the heads. (Maria is going to do one for me tomorrow night / Sunday - under supervision of course :) )

PS - how many could get away with doing this in work time? ;D

FULL pictures of the rebuild will be going up, and I will also use them to improve my HOW2 on the V6 head change / rebuild :)

It actually seems to be getting less noisey........i wonder if the leaky bit is filling up with carbon/cr*p and quietening it down  ;D

Any chance at the meet in Feb   :question It'll be dry there and i should be staying overnight...........

Could be a goer if there's cover... need a good couple of days to be sure... and I'll have to dedicate all the time to that, rather than doing belts etc..
