Flywheel and clutch replacement...
« on: 07 April 2011, 20:35:13 »

Hello all!

I have to replace the clutch because it "sleeps" when I accelerate... My mechanic told me that I have to replace the flywheel too with a complete clutch kit because it's a dual-mass one. Don't know if it's necessary but I thought about a renforced clutch kit because my car is remapped and I don't want to have the same problem 4 months later... My car had 150bhp/310Nm and now have 193bhp/405Nm.

So any suggest are welcome!

Thank you!

For a start the dual mass flywheel dosen't need replacing, unless it's damaged, when you replace the clutch and pressure plate. Now how much has he quoted you for replacement of the clutch kit?

replacement of the DMF is only "recommended" never needs it unless as stated above it has unusal issues, i.e, out of balance or noisy etc

Sometimes the car tremble slightly so I guess it comes from there... He told me that it's not needed but recommended to replace the DMF too, especially that he will remove the gearbox anyway, so he told me that's better to replace all together in one time.

Don't know about the price for the DMF but it's about 180€ for a Valeo standard clutch kit and about 250€ for labor...

But my question is: if I install a standard clutch kit again, will it support the new torque power or I need a renforced one?

Yes but mine is the DTI model, an evolution of TD, with common rail. In facts the 2,5 TD is the same that the BMW 525 TDS, and my 2,5 DTI is like the BMW 525 D. Y25DT for Opel or M57D25 for BMW.

Anyway I don't think that the clutch and gearbox are from BMW... So I'm not sure it's compatible...
