autobox question. quick answer needed
« on: 15 April 2011, 19:33:21 »

Hi there guys, finally it's time to try and get my omega through it's MOT tomorrow (sat)  just took it for a quik test drive and the autobox isn't working right.

it starts of in first, but stays there for ages the just change into third and stays there. there aren't any fault lights showing, engine or gearbox and the MID doesn't show a gearbox fault.  the oil level seems to be ok, with the engine running fluid runs out if you loosen the filler level plug, although admittedly thats with the car on ramps, the only way i can get underneath it.

any suggestions?

cheers gill

I believe that cam sensor issues affect the gearbox on the four pot engine.

Edit.  Fluid is checked hot with engine running in park on level ground

I had heard that, but the engine is running perfectly and there's no EML so not sure if this could be the problem or not.  i'm gonna disconnect the battery overnight, as it could do with a charge anyway so if there's anything stored that might cause problems they should be cleared.

how do people manage to check the oil on level ground?  i absolutely cannot fit haha! while it's on the lift at it's mot tomorrow i'll check it again as it will definatley be level.  my tester is a mate so there shouldn't be a problem.

i'm a bit dubious about a pass anyway, the new engine seems to be really smokey.  not sure why as it wasn't smokey in the car it came out of.  it looks like oil smoke as it's quite blue, but smells fuelly rather than oily.  the engine passed it's emissions test well, two days before i took it out of the car it came from (a vectra that faile on just about everything else.)
