Brown/yellow sludge in expansion tank is indicative of oil cooler failure

But yellow/brown sludge in your water could mean a trip to the clinic and a course of antibiotics. ;D ;D

You need to stop using the car and get someone to replace the oil cooler for you, unless your handy with the spanners then you coulddo it yourself. I believe there is a guide in the relevant section. The only "special" tool needed is a crows foot spanner - 19mm iirc. :y

If it's a creamy texture, oil cooler as others have said. A picture would help if possible.

Oil cooler kit should come out around £150 for parts from deAler. Not too bad a job, but flushing the oil from coolant is tedious.

I reckon they fail partly due to poor coolant servicing, as the corrosion inhibitors disperse
