Vectra V6 highs then lows
« on: 30 January 2008, 21:14:25 »

Well got the new dis pack yeasterday and fitted and now have (or did) have a very sweet sounding engine and so was well pleased. drove it for around sixty miles today and it went like the wind that was untill i was about three miles from home when the engine started to squeal and it stalled. it did start again, just, and i managed to get it onto the side of the road and turned it off and popped the bonnet to be greated with clouds of smoke bellowing from the cam cover. Got it towed back and left the bloody thing to freeze like i did faffing with it on the side of the road.So my prognosis is the idler has seized and the belt is slipping round it, what do others think? Guess it is going to dent the profit margin but think it is worth doing as the car has only done 77,000 miles and only stands me at £35 so far for the dis pack.  :-/

If it's been standing for a while maybe the bearings in the idlers dried out.

Lucky the cam belt didn't let go, on the bright side.
