wheel bearing
« on: 10 June 2011, 16:31:52 »

hi I think my back wheel bearing is on its way out, not really sure if it is that, there is a drone gets louder the longer you drive, tried lifting car up and moving wheel side to side doesnt seem to have any movement, took wheel off to look and when replacing wheel snapped one of the wheel boltd off  :o so my question is, would it be better to replace the whole bearing along with the bearing housing, what is that housing called for the purpose of ordering one, could try and drill and tap it out but thought it might be best just to replace both. i know i havent been much help sorry, there is also a clicking sound since i broke the bolt off, thanks

jack the car up, hold on to the spring and spin the wheel you should feel a grinding vibration if it's the bearing, is there not enough left on the bolt to get a pair of vice grips on it? as for the clicking can't imagine that one bolt less would cause that unless the wheel isn't sitting correctly, either way i wouldn't want to be driving too far or too fast!!

Hi there is no grinding sound but i have noticed when spinning the wheel the breaks seem to rub on the disc at intervals, there is no part of the bolt showing it has sheared off flush, can you tell the part i need to order that houses the bolts, also i noticed after taking the wheel off the suspension spring has sheared off at the bottom the part that retains the spring. The sound seems to relate to the speed, the faster you go the louder it is and slower less noise.  Thanks
