loose steering wheel Adjuster?

hello folks! my omega has a little problem

the adjustable sterring column has play in it not sure what i have done but when locked in to position there is about 1/3rd of an inch play in it and when manovering it moves up and down which is pretty dstracting and doesnt feel safe

any ideas where abouts to start looking to solve the problem? are there any servicable parts that could of failed ?

have seen this before, the only remedy is a "new" column.

there are two moving components - the latch and the pivot. The latch is so designed as to not be able to have any loose play in it, whereas the pivot is not serviceable at all.

is there any way it could be welded as its only me drives the car ?

my be is its all plastic  ::)
