Diff Oil Spec

Does anyone know the oil spec for the diff? Haynes quotes Vauxhall Special Oil,I enquired at the dealer's and discovered it is very special,it does'nt exist! and according to them never has, they have the additive for the LSD but could'nt give a spec for the oil itself.Miggy has this week passed the 100,000 mark so I'd like to do an oil change possibly by useing my Pela instead of removeing the backplate.I did wonder about Hypoid 80 or 90.However if anyone has anymore to go on than guesswork I'd be obliged :y :y

I recently changed to oil in my diff at 103,000miles, using a Pela suction pump from Machine Mart.  After a long run to warm it up the pump sucked the oil out perfectly (took about 10 minutes as the oil was still quite thick).  It obviously removed all the old oil as it took exactly 1 litre to refill it.  I managed to buy the correct oil from my freindly local Vauxhall dealer in Chichester so I guess some are more helpful than others.

Thanks Chris,memory's a funny thing how the h*ll did I forget about that really good guide of Marks DTM? although it was a couple of years back that I reviewed the guides I think time for a refresher course  :y

Hey JBN great minds think alike and all that,was that oil a GM product? you would'nt happen to still have the container with the Nos on?

ive got redline 75w in my diff its not cheap but it has all the frction modifys all ready in it.
  slilolene do an oil so do castrol all with modifys in them.

Hi Cliffo, I have thrown the empty container away but I still have the receipt which quotes Part Number 9121965  and cost £8.10 inc. tax hope this helps.

The BOA90LS from Opie Oils is very good and has the friction modifiers in it for the LSD variants.

I also find that the seals seme to last better on the LSD oils (maybe the friction modifier helps them to?)

Also, not that I have tried (yet), it is possible to drain the oil by drilling through one of the bolt holes!

I was looking at getting some for a top up but it does not come with a long plastic tube to feed into the hole - where can i get this from please?

Just checked with the dealer and they don't stock it but can get it if ordered he said about 8 quid with vat for a ltr so your on the ball JBL.Thanks Mark :y I'll go on your advice and use the Opie oil product,will be easier in the long run I would have been asking about a suitable additive for the GM oil anyway, that comment on the seals went home I know it could be possible to use the wrong additive that would have an adverse effect on the seals depending what type they are,hopefully the right oil with a good add in will give something extra to help with the stress of tugging an 18ft caravan up hill and down dale :y
