How do you tell and ar25 from ar35
« on: 03 September 2011, 12:16:10 »

How do you tell and ar25 from ar35 and what year did the omega td get the ar35?

What would be the reason for the car when 'D' or 'R' is selected, there is delay before drive is delivered and you have to use more revs to make it move. Once in motion the car drives ok?

thanks

I don't think that the 2.5TD ever got the AR35 gearbox,as regards your problem first thing to check is gearbox oil level, has to be done from underneath with the car warm and running in park or neutral, probably best checked over a pit or on a ramp to ensure that car is level :y

Have you checked the g/box oil level? If not and you need to know how, check in the maintenance section for a detailed "How to".

Ref the AR25/AR35, not sure how you tell them apart to be honest, but a more knowledgable member will be along shortly and no doubt know.
The AR25 was usually fitted upto the 2.5 possibly 2.6 I believe, but the 3.0 & 3.2 were fitted with the AR35.

i believe there is no difference in the ar25/ar35 the ar35 is fitted to the 3.0 & 3.2 because of the power difference.but i understand that you can replace an ar25 for an ar35 with no problems.

I don't know the exact details, I just know the AR35 was designed to handle more power that the AR25 can't.
But as was mentioned above, you can replace the AR25 for an AR35 but not the other way!!!  Unless you want to change it again, just after you take it for its first power run  ;D ;D ;D ;D

As said, Im pretty sure the diesels were never fitted with the AR35.Im not sure , but I think it might indicate on the label on the n/s of the box which one it is.
I have an AR25 sat on the drive, but I cant go and check as Im at work.

Correct. It says on the plate on the side.

Putting an AR35 on from a V6 onto a diesel needs the bell housing changing to the one off your diesel

Wrong. AR 25 will handle 250Nm of torque, whereas the 35 will handle 350Nm.

Sadly the TD's are border line for with standing the torque output of that engine and often fail, signified by slipping. However if it's thumping into gears, or a pause followed by a thump then it drives then it may well be worth servicing the fluid...

... From your description though, it sounds like it may be slipping with no drive? Never a good sign. :'(

The answer is fit an ar35, they change hands on here for fair money and can be fitted on the drive or pay an experienced mech to fit it, then chiping the bugger gives good results. Chipping the ar25 on that engine will kill it for sure.
