Carin Nav System
« on: 01 April 2008, 13:59:08 »

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the latest software and map updates for my Carin system please?  ;) ;)

It's a little frustrating that my road isn't even listed in the current version!!

I know it's not as good as Tom Tom (I run that on a handheld) but it seems silly to have bulilt in sat nav and not use it, constantly using something stuck to the windscreen!!

Either of the 2 big mapping companies should be able to supply - Teleatlas or NavTeq.

Please, no discussion of distributing copyrighted material. Thanks.

Why do you need a software update?  Its about as feature packed as it ever will be - remember its age, and the the fact that Philips are no more (having sold it their car audio business to VDO)

Just assumed there's probably been a couple of updates released since 1999! Can't seem to get it to navigate to postcodes or poi's. Any recommendations as to which map discs are better?

You can navigate to 5 digit postcodes on the later versions, with later map disks, but that really isn't much help tbh.

No chance of POIs - remember this is a 10yr old system.

As to map disks, for some areas Teleatlas will be better, others Navteq.  There are generally held in similar regard, though obviously there will be local roads that one is faster than other about updating...
